Differences between American and European Attitudes Towards Women

After thinking some more about what songs Americans and Europeans like or not, I noticed one overreaching theme.

Many American songs that do not do well in Europe are about things that women want. Songs like It's Raining Men are basically female fantasy about men. Other songs talk about what women want from a man. Meanwhile songs that sang by men are often about how hard it is to please women or generally praising and admiring women. Somehow there are hardly any songs where its woman who has to struggle to please a man, or a man singing about a woman they want. As if it's not up to men to choose what they want from a woman. Also, many American female singers are fat, but hardly any male ones are. Double standards?

That leads towards the dynamic where men struggle to appeal to women and women decide who is worthy or not. I am not an American and have not been there to tell if that is how relationships dynamics work there, or not. Of course, it could also be the other way around and songs instead provide escape from reality for women who cannot get what they want.

Meanwhile in Europe on the other hand all about making women as pleasing to men as possible. Pretty bodies, no fat chicks and lyrics about willingness to please men. Women sing how they are willing to do anything for a man or sometimes how they regret failing and being dumped. Men instead sing about various things not related to love or relationship. European men never worry about pleasing women, its women job to worry about pleasing men. Women who beg and struggle to appeal to men and men choose who they fancy or not. In Europe men own relationships and women have to accommodate men.

That of course leads towards the opposite relationship dynamic. Men decide who is worthy or not. Women worry and struggle hard to be chosen while dread about being rejected. Europe is big and such things can vary from country to country, but overall, it is how it is. Even in Russia women worried about men choosing them, not if he is good enough or not. Picking men or expecting something of them is not a luxury they can afford. That said in Russia they get much more toxic after marriage, thinking its job done and from there on they can freeride.

To give an example of what I mean, compare say a song by Maroon 5 to the one by ABBA. In Maroon 5 song the guy complains how hard it is to please women but willing to do it anyway. In ABBA song it is a woman who is willing to try her best pleasing a man. This two give good contrast, but other songs broadly follow the same pattern.

This not-so-subtle difference in music possibly exposes a rather glaring difference in how relationship work on different side of the Atlantic. In Europe man is King and in the US he is servant instead. Of course, each individual relationship can vary, but that is what I can tell from my vantage point.
