In my previous articles on broadly defined Principle of Opposites, I elaborated why traits, men find attractive are polar opposite of those women find attractive. This time I will further elaborate why both genders actively dislike traits that the opposite gender finds attractive.
At first glance it sounds counter-productive. Why would anyone hate the very traits that would make them attractive in the opposite gender's eyes. Isn't that deliberate sabotage of one's dating chances? That sounds counter-intuitive.
Yet, there is one situation where this hatred is rather warranted. That is if someone of the same gender as you exhibit traits attractive to the opposite gender to the greater extent than you are. To put it simply if there is someone more attractive than you are, people will approach them and ignore you. They will get all the attention and dating proposals while you will remain invisible so long as you stay around this person, of they stay around you.
Such a situation is certainly not to your advantage. So, in order to extract you from this situation, your subconsciousness makes you hate both the person and traits they exhibit. That might sound like an evil thing, but goal of your subconsciousness is to extract you out of the situation where you are ignored by potential suitors because someone more attractive is available. To that end your subconsciousness somehow needs to eliminate this more attractive person from your life. That is why it drives you to hate this person for no apparent reason, hoping that it will drive you to somehow remove them from your life. Such removal can mean simply unwillingness to hang out together but can also lead towards more serious actions. However simply staying away from a more attractive person of the same gender is good enough as that eliminates unfavorable competition from your life and keeps you at least theoretically eligible.
Eliminating dating competition is good and all, but it often leads to further problems when people begin to overthink it. Some started to see the traits themselves as evil and undesirable. That is not a too far-fetched ideas, considering they never understood what made them hate that person to begin with. That might lead towards behavior where a person will deliberately try to eliminate these attractive to the opposite gender traits from their own behavior. Their thinking would be something along the lines of: if they hated these traits in that person, then these traits must be negative, and one is better off without them.
That is how people come to hate the very traits that could have made them attractive in the eyes of the opposite gender. However as much as it may feel repugnant to do something just because that annoying jerk or that dumb bitch you hate so much did that very thing, imitating them can actually benefit one's dating prospects.
Magnets are repelled on the poles with the same polarity but are attracted to poles of the opposite polarity. Just like that men and women are repelled from things that exhibit their own traits but attracted to the opposite traits. In view of that if someone in real life strongly repels you for no apparent reason, cultivating these repulsive traits in yourself might actually improve your attractiveness to the opposite gender. That might sound like paradox, but if you read this article, you will understand why it makes more sense than initially apparent.
